The Bread Basket Finds New Home in Newport After
Hurricane Helene Devastation

Newport, TN – The Bread Basket, a nonprofit division of Central Charities of Newport and Cocke County, is thrilled to announce its relocation to a new facility in Newport, Tennessee, after suffering devastating losses due to Hurricane Helene. A grand re-opening will take place on Thursday, October 31 at 10:00 am, at the new facility located at 625 Honey Bee Lane, Newport, Tennessee. The pantry is now poised to serve the Cocke County Community from a larger and more accessible location.

In the wake of the hurricane, The Bread Basket lost 100% of its products, shelving, freezers, and equipment. However, with the incredible support of the Community and collaboration with Mountain Ways, the pantry is excited to rebuild and expand its services to better support the residents of Cocke County.

Trish Clapper, Director of The Bread Basket, expressed her enthusiasm: “We are overjoyed to reopen in our new facility! This relocation not only symbolizes a fresh start for us, but also enhances our capacity to serve those who are hurting and need help from the devastation of the flooding. Our commitment to loving and supporting Cocke County remains as strong as ever.”

The Bread Basket recently celebrated its 62nd anniversary of dedicated service to the Cocke County Community. This milestone reflects the pantry’s enduring mission to provide nutritional food and grocery products to individuals in Newport and Cocke County, Tennessee, while offering hunger education programs to the area and those in need.

Lori Moore, Mountain Ways Executive Director, shared her thoughts on this unique collaborative partnership: “We are thrilled to help The Bread Basket be of service to those in dire need during this time of recovery and rebuilding. Our mission is to share and preserve Appalachian culture and heritage by giving back and loving our neighbor, and we believe this partnership embodies that commitment.”

As The Bread Basket prepares to welcome back neighbors to our new home, we invite the Cocke County Community to join in the effort to restock the pantry and support its mission. Together, we can help rebuild lives and restore hope in Cocke County.
